In our recent home trip, I received a gift from Aunty Ivy. It's something that I've always wanted to play with but due to my busy schedule during the weekdays, mummy kept it aside until the recent Golden Week Holiday (China's week-long National Day holidays). This was the first thing on my holiday activities to-do list...

Happy Kitchen edible toy doughnuts 

The contents (all in powdered form, mainly just starch and flavourings)

The ingredients were super easy to prepare. Just add water and mix to form a paste.

Next, press the paste into the doughnut moulds

There you have it... cute mini doughnuts!

They may look like doughnuts and smell like doughnuts but they certainly don't taste like doughnuts!

They look quite like the real thing, don't they? Mummy didn't allow me to eat them but I did take a small bite just to know how it tasted like. Anyway, the fun part was in making it, not eating it :)

The Diamond Ring

Well, in a quick glance, it does look like a diamond ring, isn't it? But if you look closely....

... you will see that it is actually crudely made of a wire-tie haha! 

Yes, I love to pick up "rubbish" lying around the house and turn them into "gems", literally hahaha! 

Arts and Crafts Day - Jack O Lantern

Arts and crafts is an activity long forgotten since we moved to Shanghai. The last post was dated Sept 2012.... oh my, more than a year ago! Although mummy and I love arts and crafts very much, we just do not have the time for it. 

Last Sunday, mummy did pumpkin carving (this craft was more for her actually hehe). It all started when we saw this in Tesco a day earlier...

Really didn't expect to see Halloween decor in China!

That's not all. We even spotted some nicely carved Jack O Lanterns among a pile of pumpkins. Feeling somewhat "inspired", mummy quickly grabbed one without hesitation. 

She had always wanted to try making this but never got the chance to do so because these orange-coloured pumpkins are not cheap back in Malaysia. Over here, it is inexpensive and mummy got a 1.2kg one for only RMB4.70 (RM2.40). It was quite a solid one with thick flesh...

There was also a pomelo at home and it got "victimised" too ;) The pomelo was also very cheap at RMB2.60 (RM1.30). Sweet and juicy!

Mummy searched for some JOL images on the Internet and "started work" immediately. The pumpkin was quite big with enough surface to make 3 faces so mummy did just that. This was the first face that she drew and cut...

First she drew the outline of the features. Then she picked one of her kitchen knives and sharpened it really, really sharp! 

Within minutes, tadaaaa! Although this was her first attempt in pumpkin carving, she felt that it wasn't too difficult after all. 

The second face for both turned out very ugly... Lol!

And finally, the third face... all 3 of us voted this as our favourite :)

At night, we played with "fire". Yes, today's craft was all about playing with sharp knives and fire :p

We had only 1 miserable candle so the pomelo had to make do with a blue-light torchlight ;)

The next day, here is what's left of poor Mr 3-faced Jack O Lantern... he (they) landed on our dinner table haha...

Pumpkin chicken rice with raw veggies (lettuce, red capsicum and turnip). Yummy!!!

This was probably our best pumpkin purchase so far. We crafted it, played with it and ate it too. No wastage! :) 

Arts & Craft Day: Pops Craft

I miss arts and crafts very much and have been pestering mummy "when can we do arts and crafts?" for a very, very long time. Finally, my wish was granted when she took this out for me...

Arts and Crafts Day: Pistachio Shells

The box of pistachio shells has been sitting on my table since Chinese New Year and daddy, had on many occasions, threatened to throw it away. Finally, on Sunday (Mother's Day), mummy decided to spend some quality time with me... by doing arts and crafts with me. We also did a similar nutty craft last year.

This time, we produced 3 crafts with these trash shells. The first one was a "cherry blossom" tree. This was inspired by something similar that mummy saw on Little Chumsy's Blog recently.

Glue-ing the shells onto the art block (with UHU glue) was quite tricky so mummy did this for me.

I painted the shells with pink water-colour

Shoddy work! We should have painted the shells before sticking them here. It was difficult to paint the shells without smearing the paper.

The next craft was the egg carton caterpillar. This was totally not related to the pistachio shells but in the end, mummy had a new idea...

On another note, I also made a card and a keychain for mummy last Thursday when she attended the special Mother's Day celebration (themed Sweet Hues of Pastel) in school with me.

Unfortunately, mummy can't blog about this event because she had accidentally deleted all the photos and videos of the event. She took so many nice singing and dancing videos of me... silly, silly mummy!!! 

Angry Bird Fever

I am not really a big fan of Angry Birds. I do play the game but not to the extent of being addicted to it. Recently, while window-shopping, I spotted some Angry Birds stickers and pestered mummy to buy it for me. As it was rather cheap (only RM2.90), mummy obliged.

The stickers turned out to be something else... it wasn't the sticky sticker that you could stick anywhere. It was the "car sticker type" that can only be stuck on glass! Not knowing where else to let me display them, mummy allowed me to stick them on the glass sliding door of our living room.

Random work... one here, one there....

From these stickers, mummy attempted to make them using playdough. She first attempted to make the birds in 3-D but failed so she came up with the 2-D ones instead. Here are some of her messy and not so neat work. She made all of them except the white bird (that one was made by daddy)...

Mummy loves the Angry Bird theme song too so she googled for the notes, had it printed out, played it on the Clavinova (piano), recorded it and saved it for playback (for me). Every now and then, I like to pretend playing the piece...
