I'm a Kiasu Girl

Lately, I am getting more and more kiasu (afraid of losing). I like to be the No. 1 in everything that I do. I hate losing (in a game) and I dislike my mistakes to be pointed out.

- In a game, whenever I sense that I'm about to lose, I will quickly declare "I want to be the loser in this game!" When I really lose, I will gleefully say "See, I told you I want to be the loser". What a cunning way to "save face"!

- When walking towards the car or a door, I will quicken my footsteps, as if in a race, and quickly touch the car or door while proudly announcing "I reach first!" The same goes when we are walking down the stairs (of my school) where I always want to reach the ground first. Sometimes I would even walk down two steps at a time! Knowing how dangerous this is, mummy has to keep reminding me that she will let me win.

-I don't quite like being told that I'm wrong. Whenever I make mistakes, I will try to defend it with excuses. Sometimes my excuses can be quite logical, although not necessary applicable, like this instance...

Me: Mummy, mummy... I can spell "book".
Mummy: Spell...
Me: B-O-O-C
Mummy: Huh? Wrong! Spell again. *knowing that I know the correct spelling*
Me: B-O-O-C lah. Can use C also because C also has the /k/ sound ma...
Mummy: .............

The girl who is afraid to lose

If only I'm this kiasu in my studies in the near future...

  1. Chloe has reminded me of my April. Everytime playing cards or snack chest with her, she would cry when she lost.

  9. same with me too chloe.. i always like to be the one who win when play game with daddy. i'd show my face if i lose then daddy has to explain about winning n losing again.

but sometimes its good too.. coz sometimes daddy n mommy would take this chance to have me do things faster. eg, c who finish bathing first, c who finish the rice first, etc. :)

  10. I agree wholeheartedly with Eugene's stand about winning and losing. From your girl's reasoning, it definitely shows she knows how to twist and turn facts into her advantage which is a skill sometimes necessary for survival.

  12. I guess kids at Chloe and Ryan's age enjoy the feeling of being first and feeling victorious. I guess its a normal feeling...and hope when they get older...they will reason about the difference of winning and trying their best.

Ryan always tells me he wants to be FIRST...he doesn't want to lose. He cried in school the other day when he couldn't get to be first in line before going home.

  22. I guess it's normal for kids to hate losing. My kids r like that too. When they're playing tv games, and either 1 make noise becoz he/she lost, they dun get to play anymore. So they TRY to ctrl themselves. :)
